🚫

30% Rejection Rate

The IRS rejects 1 in 3 ITIN applications due to minor errors: wrong exemption codes, missing signatures, or invalid supporting documents. A rejection means months of delay and potential loss of tax refunds.

The "Perfect Package"

We assemble a complete application package: Form W-7, your Federal Tax Return (required), and strict guidance on mailing. We review everything before you send it to Austin, TX.

Who needs an ITIN?

If you aren't eligible for a Social Security Number (SSN), you likely need an ITIN for these reasons:

👪 Spouses & Dependents

F-2, J-2, H-4 Visas: You need an ITIN to be claimed as a dependent or to file a joint return with your working spouse. Filing jointly often results in a bigger refund.

💰 Foreign Investors

Do you own US real estate, receive dividends, or have partnership income? You need an ITIN to file taxes and claim Treaty Benefits (lower tax rates).

🎓 Scholarship Recipients

Students receiving taxable scholarships or grants (Fellowships) who are not eligible for an SSN (e.g., athletes without work authorization) must file to stay compliant.

🎰 Gambling Winnings

Did you win big in Vegas? Casinos withhold 30% tax. To get some of that back, you need to file a return with an ITIN.

💳 Building Credit

An ITIN allows you to open US bank accounts and apply for certain credit cards to start building your financial history.

📄 ITIN Renewals

If you haven't used your ITIN on a tax return in the last 3 years, it has expired. We file renewal applications to keep your number active.

Our Safe Process

We minimize the time your passport is out of your hands.

  1. Intake: You complete our secure form and upload scans of your documents.
  2. Preparation: We prepare your Federal Tax Return (1040/1040-NR) AND Form W-7.
  3. Review: A CPA reviews the package for accuracy and treaty compliance.
  4. Assembly: We send you the complete PDF package with exact mailing instructions.
  5. Filing: You mail the package (via tracked mail) to the specialized IRS ITIN unit.

⚠️ Passport Safety Warning

The IRS requires original documents or "Certified Copies" from the issuing agency. Notarized copies are NOT accepted.

Our Advice: We strongly recommend obtaining a Certified Copy from your embassy or using a CAA (Certified Acceptance Agent) if you do not wish to mail your passport.

Why do ITIN applications fail?

1. Missing Tax Return

You cannot simply apply for an ITIN. It MUST be attached to a valid Federal Tax Return (unless you qualify for specific exceptions like Exception 1 or 2).

2. Incorrect Documents

Sending a photocopy of your passport without it being "Certified" by the issuing agency will lead to immediate rejection. Notarized copies from a US bank are often not enough.

3. Wrong Box Checked

Checking box "a" (Non-resident with US income) instead of box "b" (Non-resident filing a tax return) is a common error that confuses the IRS processing unit.

Comprehensive ITIN FAQ

Can I apply online?

No. The IRS does not accept electronic W-7 applications. It must be mailed physically with your tax return and documents.

How long does it take?

Typically 7 to 11 weeks. During tax season (April-June), it can take 12-14 weeks. We recommend applying as early as possible.

Does an ITIN allow me to work?

No. An ITIN is for federal tax reporting only. It does not provide work authorization (like an SSN does) or immigration status. Employers generally cannot accept an ITIN for I-9 verification.

Can I get an ITIN for my child?

Yes, if they are your dependent and you are filing a US tax return. Note: As of 2018, dependents living outside the US (Mexico/Canada excepted) typically do not qualify for the Child Tax Credit, but they may qualify for the Credit for Other Dependents ($500).

Do I need to renew my ITIN?

If you haven't used your ITIN on a tax return in the last 3 consecutive tax years, it will expire. Also, ITINs with certain middle digits (e.g., 88, 90, 91, 92, 94-99) may have expired. We can check this for you.

What if I get a Social Security Number later?

Great news! Once you are eligible for an SSN (e.g., you get a job on OPT), you must stop using your ITIN. You should write a letter to the IRS asking them to combine your tax records under your new SSN.

Do you act as a Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA)?

We prepare the full application package for you to mail. We currently do not offer in-person document verification services (CAA). This allows us to keep our prices significantly lower ($49 vs $300+ for a CAA).
